Truthfully, the word “hospice” scares people. We know that. Our communities associate the word hospice with dying– but that couldn’t be farther from the truth.
Hospice is simply a philosophy. The “Carpe Diem of healthcare”. The “whatever is meant to happen, is going to happen”, mentality. By the time most are electing hospice care, their diagnoses are irreversible.
FUN FACT: The word Hospice comes from the Latin word, Hospis; which simply means, guest. That’s why it is the base of words such as hostels/hotels, hospitals, and hospitality. You should feel well-taken care of on hospice. Similarly, to the way a guest feels at a hostel/hotel.
Hospice is a group of medically trained individuals, who help to manage the symptoms related to irreversible diagnoses and/or overall aging.
